Summer is a great time to get outside, to learn a new sport skill or polish a familiar one, to study nature or try theater arts. Elings Park offers a range of week-long camps for kids ages 5-12 in a spectacular Santa Barbara setting. There’s a maximum of 10 campers for every counselor, and each counselor is CPR and First Aid certified. Our programs are based on the six pillars of Character Counts: fairness, caring, citizenship, trustworthiness, respect and responsibility. We offer over 10 different camps and our partnerships with the Reptile Family and Santa Barbara Fire Department will make this summer one your child will never forget.

Sports Activities Camp – Ages 5-12

Come play at one of Elings Park’s most popular camps. Participants enjoy a variety of games and team-building sports activities including hiking, tag, relay races, basketball and soccer drills, racquet sports and more. All activities are fully inclusive, cooperative and integrated with music for an action-packed week of fitness, friends and fun!

My name is Audrey Seversen and I am a Senior at Westmont College majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Music. After playing four years of high school tennis along with private lessons, clinics, and USTA tournaments, I went on to play two years on the Westmont Women’s Tennis Team. I have been an assistant coach in the summers teaching students ages 4 through 15 to play tennis. As well as teaching tennis, I have taught piano and violin lessons, worked in several programs overseas, and I have been a nanny. I worked as a Youth Ministry Intern for a summer; planning programs, leading activities, and mentoring middle school and high school students. This year I serve as a Resident Assistant for 29 underclassmen women at Westmont College. I have a passion for young people – helping them to grow and develop their gifts and talents. I am so excited for the opportunity to spend time with your kids this summer!

Nature & Games Camp – Ages 5-12

Nature & Games Camp includes nature hikes, outdoor games, plant germination,
arts and crafts and education about plants and animals. Guest speakers include taff from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, Public Works, and the Humane Society who instruct campers in fire safety, water conservancy, and animal appreciation and safety. New this year: special focus on recycling and how kids can make a difference and a focus on nutrition and building healthy eating habits.

Hi everyone! My name is Mary Gish and I was born and raised right here in sunny Santa Barbara. Working with children is my passion, and it has been since I was very young. I love laughing, singing, art, nature, and staying active. I recieved my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Westmont College and am currently in the Masters and Credential program through Azusa Pacific University. I am the first, second, and third grade Physical Education Instructor at Coastline Christian Academy, and I absolutely love what I do! I am very excited to meet you!

BMX – Ages 5 and up

Come ride the Elings Park BMX track with other young athletes from across the County! BMX Camp is designed for riders of all levels and abilities. Improve basic skills, learn track etiquette and get a great workout in the beautiful outdoors. BMX is one of the fastest growing sports in the US and Elings Park is home to many nationally ranked riders. Each participant must bring a helmet and a functioning bike.

Chantel’s first time at Santa Barbara BMX was a summer camp in 1997. Over the next ten years she progressed to State Champion, West Coast Champion, National Age Group #1, Grand National #1, and World #1. After turning pro, she went on to race the qualifiers for the 2008 Olympic games. Chantel is also a certified Personal Fitness Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist and business owner. Elings Park is proud to have her coaching BMX Camp for the third year in a row.

Tennis – Ages 5 to 18

Train with top international coaching staff and rise to the next level by gaining a competitive edge in combined high-performance tennis, fitness, and mental toughness program designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced players.

Full-day camp from 9 am to 4 pm or half-day camp from 9 am to 12 pm. 4 to 1 player to coach ratio. Match play; tactical and technical drills; ball machine; one semi-individual attention per week (for full-day campers); final evaluation for each camper;  nutritional, dynamic warm-up and stretching education.

Instructor: Dimitar Yazadzhiev – Dimitar has been coaching at the top professional level for almost 20 years. He has been a Head Coach for the Weil Tennis Academy (Ojai, CA) for over 10 years. Before this, he was a coach at the Maleeva Tennis Academy, a Tournament Director for the Bulgarian Tennis Federation, and a Management Director for the Academic Tennis Club (Sofia, Bulgaria). He has been ranked among the Top Four Juniors in Bulgaria and has been a professional USPTR since 1993. He graduated from the prestigious Bulgarian National Sports Academy with a master’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Management. Dimitar has been coaching and working with some of the top ranked national and international junior players, among them: Sesil Karatancheva (Top 40 WTA and French Open Quarter Finalist), Ksenia Milevskaya (Top 200 WTA, 2007 #2 ITF), Nolan Bauer (#1 Southwest Section B14s, Top 40 US B14s), and Grigor Dimitrov (#1 ITF B18s, 2006 Orange Bowl Boys 16s Singles champion, 2008 Jr. Wimbledon champion, and 2008 Jr. US Open Singles champion).

Instructor: Alan Richter- Alan is a certified USPTA level 3 professional and has been teaching for 5 years. He has attended numerous teaching/coaching seminars offered thru the USPTA.  All these events had world leaders in tennis coaching and playing heading the workshops. Alan currently has accumulated 12 of the necessary 20 credits to obtain his Accredited Professional Coaching certification from the USPTA. This is a continuing education program to keep teaching professionals up to date with contemporary teaching skills.  Last year he survived the Bolletierri 5 day adult training camp. Alan played high school tennis for two years and then took up tennis again in 1995. From 2001 to 2008 Alan captained a 4.0 Men’s tennis team for the spring and fall seasons inSanta Barbara. Of those 14 seasons Alan’s team won the local division and moved on to the sectional playoffs six times. Alan has taught privately and with the Santa Barbara Tennis Patrons Match Point Program headed by Ferenc Hodosey for three years.

Lacrosse Youth Camp by SBLA – Ages 6-14 (boys and girls)

Camp Coordinator : Rick Lehman grew up in Rye , New York just north of NYC with lacrosse all around. He is one of the founders of the new Santa Barbara Lacrosse Association (SBLA)(www.sblacrosse.org) of which he is the current President. Rick will be joined by male and female coaches who have played lacrosse at various levels including some of the UCSBWomen’s lacrosse team players.

Rick started playing lax in 1980 in New York and played through high school as a center
midfielder achieving honors, recruited for college, but chose to pursue medicine instead. He now has over 30 years of lacrosse experience and has coached youth lacrosse, basketball and soccer for years. His family recently moved from the University of Virginia , home of NCAA Division I Championship level lacrosse.

The SBLA is teaming up with Elings Park to provide summer lacrosse camps. This will allow kids to learn and play lacrosse at the basic level and as they advance, so will the camp. Each camp day will teach skills and then allow time to play games. Boys and girls are welcome to participate in the fastest growing sport in America . Lacrosse started as a Native America sport and now we will make it the All American Sport! Come join us for the fun!

Rob Crawford’s Baseball Academy – Ages 5-12

We are proud to have Rob Crawford back at our Summer Camp this year! Rob has been a local Baseball figure coaching at both high school and college levels. He is currently the coach at San Marcos High School but has worked with, and continues to work with players from all the area schools as a private hitting instructor. Once again, Rob will be directing a very fun and exciting camp with games, contests and drills for all ages and skill levels. He has a great reputation around the city and has established a large following in Santa Barbara. Coach Crawford enters his 6th summer as Director for the Rob Crawford Baseball Academy here at Elings Park.

Martial Arts Camp – Ages 5-12

From its earliest beginnings nearly 2000 years ago, martial arts has been steeped in tradition. Nowhere will you feel that sense of rich history than at a USSD studio. Since 1968, our students have studied the unique USSD system of Kempo-style martial arts from the finest instructors in the United States. Our students have also learned the value of honor, trust and loyalty–qualities that influence every aspect of their lives. Softball Camp – Ages 5-12

Elings Park Softball Camp will entail detailed instruction in hitting, fielding, base-running and pitching.  The girls will work hard to learn the skills and although fun, there will NOT be time to goof off.  Every player will be able to field a ground ball, catch a fly ball, tag a runner out, slide into a base, swing well and bunt within the 5 days.   They will understand the fundamentals of the game and how every defender moves on every pitch.    The players will see advanced players demonstrate the skills and help them learn proper technique.

Rugby Academy Camp – Ages 7-14

Rugby is a game which is full of action, excitement, beauty, and drama. The game offers the young player an environment of friendship, discipline, team work, respect, fitness and skills.

The Santa Barbara Rugdy Academy helps young players develop their skills and knowledge in the game of rugdy. We do this by building an encouraging, friendly and fun environment. We cover everything from “Introduction to Rugby” up to “Advanced Rugby, nutrition and fitness considerations.”
Each camper leaves with a new and improved knowledge of the game, enhance skill sets, advice and information on healthy eating and exercise, as well as great memories and new friends.

Theater Camp

Week 7, Ages 8-11 – The Wizard of Oz
Whether your child loves performing, or is just curious to know more about the world of Musical Theater, boys and girls alike will love this camp!  We will use exercises and games to learn all the basics of musical theater, from singing techniques and stage etiquette, to dance and costume design.  Campers will not only learn about this show, but will go through a shortened audition, rehearsal, and production process leading up to a performance for family and friends on the last day of camp!!  Our show will feature some of the well-loved songs from the classic musical, along with a short script with all your favorite characters!

Week 8, Ages 11-15 – Wicked
Have you seen this Broadway smash-hit success yet?  If you sign your kids up for this camp you will, because “Wicked” is coming to Elings Park this year!  This camp is designed for students who have an interest in theater, and want to expand their knowledge and repertoire (although we welcome beginners as well!) This camp will focus on elements of improv acting, scene study, character development, performance techniques, auditioning, vocal performance, and show production.  Students will engage in activities to expand their knowledge in these areas, all while learning songs and a shortened script for our “Wicked” performance on the last day of camp!!!

Awesome Art - Ages 5-12

Half-day camp from 9 am to noon. A celebration of self discovery through the arts! Your child will experience a full spectrum of art technique training that includes construction, painting, decorating, assemblage and sculpting. This is fun, self directed creativity where everyone is a success. Take home this beautifully crafted piece which can be used in play continually. We will also have a gallery show at the last class!

Instructor: Beth Amine. Beth has been a working artist for 40 years, involved in teaching, exhibiting and commissioned work in a wide variety of mediums and applications. She has taught thousands of children, individuals, groups and organizations how to access their own innate free self expression and creativity through her educational art learning kits, Portals to Peace tm, and formats. Elings Park Friendship Camp – half day from 1 – 4 pm

This summer, Camp Elings is proud to announce a partnership with PeerBuddies to provide a summer camp program tailored for children with special needs.  Activities will include: hiking, tag, relay races, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts and more! Your child will receive professional and dedicated support, including:

  • Pairing with same aged or slightly older Peer Buddy
  • 4:1 camper to adult ratio
  • Trained Facilitators
  • Adaptive PE Camp Counselors
  • Supervision by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst

General Information

Elings Park offers a variety of camps in a great location. Our counselors are CPR and First Aid certified and we maintain a minimum 10:1 counselor-to-camper ratio for each camp. In addition to our award-winning camps, Elings Park is proud to incorporate Character Counts® into this year’s program! The Six Pillars of Character® include: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.

Special Programs

From Monday through Thursday, we will host special guests. They are:

  • The Reptile Family, inspiring the discovery and appreciation of the earth’s most misunderstood creatures through innovative, educational, entertaining and hands-on experiences
  • Santa Barbara Fire Department
  • Santa Barbara Police Department
  • C.A.R.E. for PAWS, holding games and presentations on the importance of how to be a good pet owner regardless of whether you have dogs, cats, bunnies and other pets

Extended Care

Most camps run from 9 AM — 3 PM each day. Camp Elings offer four extended childcare options at a cost of $5/hr:

  • 8 AM – 9 AM
  • 3 PM – 4 PM
  • 4 PM – 5 PM
  • 5 PM – 6PM

Half-Day Camps

Camp Elings is pleased to offer half-day camps from 9 AM — Noon for the following:

  • Lacrosse Camp
  • Martial Arts Camp
  • Tennis

What to Bring

Each camper is provided with a camp T-shirt and is encouraged to wear it daily. Please label your child’s belongings.
We recommend bringing the following items:

      • Lunch backpack/bag
      • Water bottle
      • Hat
      • Sunscreen
      • Sturdy closed-toe shoes

Lunch

Lunch will be provided for free by The Mobile Café Project, a program from the Santa Barbara Unified School Districts’ Food Services Department. They will provide delicious and nutritious lunches for our camper starting  on week 2 (June 18-22) until week 10 (August 13-17). Or, you can always pack your own. Camp Elings will provide nutritional snacks and popsicles throughout the week, including:

      • Granola bars
      • Sun Chips
      • Fruit Snacks
      • Trail Mix
      • And much more!

Please note that during the first week (June 11- 14) campers must bring home lunch, we will provide pizza on Friday.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Most camps run from 9 AM — 3 PM daily. If you are not using extended care, please drop off your child no earlier than 15 minutes before camp starts. Please pick up your child no later than 15 minutes after the camp ends each day. Campers will be released only to the parent/guardian listed on the original registration form.

Sign-in and sign-out is required each day when you drop off and pick up your child. If you wish to designate another person for pick up and/or drop off, please write their name on the sign-in sheet.

Counselors-In-Training (CIT) Program

Cancellation Policy

      • All cancellations must be in writing, by mail or fax at 805-569-3316
      • Cancellations received 15 or more full days before the reserved camp date will receive an 80% refund
      • Cancellations received 7 – 14 full days before the reserved camp date will receive a 50% refund
      • Cancellations received less than 7 full days before the reserved camp date are not eligible for a refund
